Lazy Winter Day at Home

I.

It’s been very cold here in Omaha over the last few days. I don’t think the temperature has gone above 15 degrees. The windchill hit about -30 degrees a couple nights ago. That’s not the kind of weather that invites you to go outside very often. So the kids, Missy, and I found ways to stay entertained at home.

Today I pulled out the camera to take a few shots and I again had to ask myself, “Why don’t I do this more often?” I love taking pictures of my kids, and now the dog, too.

On my photography website I included most of the pictures that I am going to feature here on this blog. However, most of those will be in color. Here, I’m going to stick with the black and white shots of the day. There’s a lot of them. But when it comes to my kids, I can’t help myself. And I don’t regret it one bit.

Sarah just finished her four and a half night stretch of work in a row. But she actually got to come home early last night because of how things slowed down at the hospital. So she came home around 2:00 am and went right to bed. She slept in this morning while the kids and I played in the basement.

Later in the day Sarah said she wanted to get take a shower and get reestablished being awake during the day again. She told me she wanted to do her hair and other things to help her feel like a human being again.

While she did that, the kids and I played on the couch and around the living room and dining room while Missy furiously chewed away on some chewing leather that we got for her.

I love natural lighting. It makes for the best photography, even when indoors. Today was a nice a bright day outside, and we had plenty of nice warm light pouring in through our front windows. It made it quite fun to take shots of the boys today. So I took a lot of them.

Later today, Sarah was telling me how much she’s been craving seafood. So Sarah and I decided that tonight would be a good night for Mommy and Micah to go out on a date night together. Ezra, Missy, and I would stay home and eat.

I grabbed a couple shots that I really love before they left. In this first one I really think you can just see how much Micah admires and loves his mommy. The second one is them kissing before they left.

If you’ve made it this far in this post, you must really like looking at photos of my kids. 🙂

As a photographer I am always surprised by which particular shots people like more than others. It almost always differs from the ones that I like the most. If you took the time to look at all the pictures and would like to give me some feedback, which picture or pictures did you like the most? I know it’s hard because there are so many of them, but perhaps you could explain it or you could click through on the picture you like, copy the link from Flickr, and then paste it in your comment.

But that’s only if you really want to let me know. And if you’d like to see all the pictures, you can head over to my Flickr page and see all my pictures from today.
