Jamming in the Last Days

Two cloud-filled days of rain in June.
But today the sun shines bright.
The flowers in their beds
Live out their perfect days
In full glorious bloom.

Little blossom piles in the dining room.
New jams are being made.
Oh how wild and precious they are!
Elderflower, Dandelion,
And sweet Red Clover.
All picked from this square mile.

Never mind if it takes a while,
The labor is made of love.
Add a mix of astonishment.
And then give it away with joy.
Spread it on some homemade bread
To announce that “God is good!”

Two young girls from the neighborhood
Come over to lend a hand.
To learn the secrets
Of backyard alchemy
Passed down through each generation
To eat in Armageddon.
